Forest fires that covers nine forest in the region of Quebec, Canada have bring effects in the cities of Montreal and Ottawa in Canada as far as Boston in the United States.

The massive flames of the fire which reach as high as 30 meters look like a real monster, said Marcel Trudel. The smell of forest burning was visible in Montreal and Canada, and thousands of hectares of forest were burned in the center of Quebec where eight outbreaks of forest fires were still out of control. There were more than 52 outbreaks of fires in which 50 of them continue to burn.

On Monday also issued the first smoke warning across southern Quebec, the area most densely populated of the province, as they reached the region of Ottawa in Ontario, due to the change of wind direction.

The U.S. Weather Service (NOAA) issued an alert that covers the states of Maine and New Hampshire, bordering Quebec and in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Public Health Agency of Quebec invited the “vulnerable people to be cautious,” recalling in a statement that “the smoke mostly affects people with respiratory or heart disease and asthmatic children.”

Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes declared a “red alert,” the highest level of emergency, today after rains from Agatha set off at least 140 landslides.

The hurricane center said that Agatha storm is expected to produce rainfall of as much as 20 inches (50 centimeters) over southeastern Mexico, Guatemala and most of El Salvador.

A spokesman for Guatemala’s national disaster agency, said yesterday landslides triggered by Agatha’s rains killed some adults and children in the western and central parts of the country. Meanwhile, floods in El Salvador have killed six people.

Alexander Randy Angianto merupakan lulusan termuda dari 1.516 lulusan Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) yang diwisuda hari ini, Rabu (19/5/2010). Alex, panggilan akrabnya, mampu menyelesaikan studi di Fakultas Kedokteran dalam usia 19 tahun, 3 bulan, 19 hari.

Pria asal kota Balikpapan, Kaltim, ini bukanlah peraih IPK cum laude 4 atau lulus tercepat. Saat di wisuda bersama 1.301 Sarjana serta 215 Ahli Madya untuk Periode III Tahun Akademik 2009/2010 dia, merupakan lulusan termuda. Selama 3,5 tahun ia merampungkan kuliahnya dengan IPK 3,56.

Alex yang memiliki tinggi badan 184 cm, saat ini telah menyandang gelar sarjana kedokteran (S.Ked). Saat diwisuda dia tengah mengikuti pendidikan koasistensi di RS Dr Sardjito Yogyakarta.

Dia adalah anak pertama dari dua bersaudara pasangan Erwin Angianto (50) dan Anastasia Yulianti (46), bercerita jika dahulunya dia sudah masuk SD saat umur 5 tahun. Dia menamatkan SD Yayasan Bina Bhakti Siswa (YBBS) di kota Balikpapan selama enam tahun. Yang sedikit berbeda, justru di bangku SMP dan SMA, dirinya ikut program akselerasi sehingga bisa lulus satu tahun lebih cepat dari biasanya.

Alex mengaku sejak kecil tidak ada perlakukan khusus dari orang tua padanya. Bahkan dirinya termasuk orang yang tidak begitu memaksakan dirinya untuk belajar. Dia lebih suka menghabiskan kesempatan bermain dengan anak seusianya. Bahkan saat bergaul dengan teman-temannya yang lebih tua dari usianya, Alex sering berkata ceplas-ceplos seenaknya seperti anak SMA lainnya. Namun teman-teman kuliahnya menganggap biasa saja.

Selama belajar di UGM, dia tidak suka mengasingkan diri untuk bisa belajar. Tapi lebih suka belajar saat mendengarkan pada dosen saat mengajar di depan kelas. Semua yang dikemukakan dosen dicatat dan dipelajari dengan baik

“Saya lebih fokus saat jam-jam pelajaran. Saya juga akan lebih mudah menerima pelajaran saat saya banyak mendengarkan. Selama belajar juga tidak banyak kendala di sini,” kata pria kelahiran 30 Januari 1991 ini.

Setelah lulus dari SMAN 1 Balikpapan tahun 2006, dia masuk FK UGM lewat jalur Penelusuran Bakat Skolastik (PBS) UM UGM. Ketertarikannya untuk memilih pendidikan dokter muncul dari dirinya sendiri. Kendati begitu, sejak kecil ibunya yang kebetulan juga berprofesi sebagai seorang dokter juga menyarankan dirinya kelak menjadi dokter.

“Sejak kecil sudah diminta jadi dokter. Saat SMA ya jadi pingin jadi sendiri jadi dokter,” kata Alex yang bercita-cita ingin jadi dokter spesialis bedah ini.

Selama kuliah, Alex tidak hanya sibuk dengan urusan kuliah semata. Dia aktif di organisasi Asosiasi Mahasiswa Kedokteran Asia (Asia Medical Student). Di organisasi ini dia sempat menjabat sebagai Direktur AMCEP (Asia Medical Student Exchange Program). Kerugian ini terutama disebabkan oleh adanya pembebanan biaya merger sebesar Rp 482,25 miliar dan tambahan beban pembentukan PPAP sehubungan dengan merger sebesar Rp 342,34 miliar. Biaya merger sebesar Rp 482,25 miliar tersebut adalah porsi biaya merger yang dibebankan kepada eks legacy PT Bank Bali Tbk dari total biaya merger sebesar Rp 1,6 triliun, sedangkan sisanya yang merupakan porsi biaya merger yang dibebankan kepada keempat bank peserta merger lainnya telah diperhitungkan di dalam pos Selisih Nilai Transaksi Restrukturisasi Entitas Sepengendali yang terdapat pada neraca konsolidasi bagian ekuitas.

Pada posisi 31 Desember 2002, jumlah kredit yang diberikan (gross) berjumlah Rp 8,93 triliun, jumlah dana pihak ketiga yang berhasil dihimpun adalah berjumlah Rp 21,89 triliun, dan total ekuitas konsolidasi per 31 Desember 2002 mencapai Rp 1,16 triliun, yaitu setelah BPPN mewakili Pemerintah melakukan Penempatan Modal Sementara sebesar Rp 4,6 triliun dalam rangka merger, sehingga Rasio Kecukupan Modal (CAR) PermataBank pada akhir tahun 2002 mencapai 10,4%.

Berkat upaya-upaya yang telah dilakukan di tahun 2002, khususnya kegiatan merger, pengelolaan aktiva produktif dan pengendalian operasional secara efisien dan efektif, maka pada kuartal I tahun 2003 PermataBank telah berhasil membukukan laba sebelum pajak perusahaan induk sebesar Rp 102,29 miliar (sebelum diaudit). Di samping itu, budaya kerja sudah mulai tumbuh serta berjalan seirama, dan nama PermataBank sudah mulai dikenal oleh masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, kami optimis bahwa PermataBank mampu menunjukkan kinerja yang lebih baik di tahun 2003 dan berpotensi untuk tumbuh dan berkembang secara sehat seperti yang diharapkan.

Tornadoes were reported to hit Oklahoma, killing at least 5 people. The heavy storm caused vehicles flipped over on roads and crushed several houses, some of which seemed to have been shaven from their foundations. Footage from KFOR-TV showed that the tornado speedily crossed a highway before it continued to a grassy field.

It was reported that two people were killed Oklahoma City while three others were killed in Cleveland County, but no further details were available.

Some 58 residents suffered injuries throughout Oklahoma because of severe weather. Similar weather also hit parts of Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.

A damaged highway, power lines and blown off roofs were reported in Cleveland County. Debris was visible in Noble County.

The tornado, with winds of 103 m.p.h, affected some 25 counties in eastern Oklahoma, four counties in western Arkansas, nine counties in southeast Kansas, and five counties in southwest Missouri. According to the weather scientists the atmosphere contained combination of winds, heat and moisture to create dangerous conditions.

The new album of an Irish Band, the Chieftans, revealed the untold story of Irish heroism in Mexico’s history. The music in the albums seems to be the perfect Cinco de Mayo celebration this year.
Paddy Moloney, the lead singer of the band, describes the album “San Patricio” as a “tone poem.”

While saying that his band is among one of the world’s most celebrated Irish music group, Moloney explained that the album tells about the untold story in Mexican and Irish history. The album also features collaboration.

The lead singer describes the band members like one big happy family. One of them was Ry Cooder, also a six-time Grammy winner, who co-produced the album and had a huge impact on four tracks, including one he wrote and performed himself.

According to Moloney, Ry is a fantastic musician who participated in the past album “Santiago” and “The Long Black Veil,” both of which won Grammys. He contributed one of the most moving songs on the whole album, ‘The Sands of Mexico.’”

Moloney said he “came up with the idea for the album years ago. Originally, I wanted to make an album about the American Civil War, but then I stumbled upon the story of the San Patricio Battalion.” It took two years to make the album. The San Patricio Battalion was a group of Irish immigrants who deserted the U.S. Army in 1846 to fight on the Mexican side against the invading Yankees in the Mexican-American War.
